Journal Title: Revista MVZ Cordoba - Year 2005, Vol 10, Issue 2

Abstract

With the objective of evaluating the environmental performance of the fish farms facilities, it was designed and it applied a tool based on the check lists, which was elaborated of agreement with the recommendations given by the FAO in their Conduct Code for a Responsible Aquaculture, in the guides of non government organizations (NGOs) that look for the development of a responsible aquaculture and of modifications to the methodological proposals of Vinatea (1999) and Leripio (2003). The application for interview of the questionnaire, accompanied by ocular inspection, allowed the gathering of valuable information that qualified the performance of the fish farms facilities like critic, terrible, acceptable, good and excellent sustainability. The report of results given to the municipal government became a guide for its actions through goals, strategies and responsible entities. It was certain that the negative aspects to the environmental acting are in their majority of quick and economic solution, and that it is required of work proactive among the municipal government, the regional environmental corporation and the producers. The application of the tool is recommended in four phases: preliminary evaluation, sensitization and understanding, autoevaluation and supply of guides and recommendations for the good environmental acting.
