Determination of Levels of Uptake of few Heavy Metals to the Leaves of Mentha arvensis Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometrically

Abstract

Contaminated soils with heavy metals can potentially lead to the uptake and accumulation of these metals in the edible plant parts causing risk to human and animal health. Present investigations have been initiated to determine levels of uptake of heavy metals viz. Pb, Cd, Zn, Fe, and Cu to the usable part of Mentha arvensis plant i.e. leaves. Samples of plant and corresponding soils, grown in five sets of different artificially contaminated culture media keeping other conditions controlled/ similar, were processed, digested and then metals were determined Atomic Absorption spectrophotometrically. Correlation matrix has shown that most of the metal concentrations in plants and in corresponding soil samples are significantly correlated
