Diagnostic difficulties in drug adverse reactions
Journal Title: Postępy Dermatologii i Alergologii - Year 2005, Vol 22, Issue 5
Abstract
In the paper authors present contemporary literature data regarding diagnostic procedures in drug hypersensitivity – a significant problem, being a matter of intense research for many years. Indications for use, the method and also scientific spectrum of skin tests, main in vitro investigations and provocation tests with culprit drugs have been described. Undoubtfully diagnostic difficulties result from enormous heterogeneity of clinical picture and etiopathogenesis of drug adverse reactions and they are also caused by individual procedures' imperfections. One of the controversies considers required time interval between adverse drug reaction and the diagnostic approach, which depends on the type of drug hypersensitivity and also the method used and ranges from 3 weeks to 20 years.
