Disorders of immunological balance between Th1 and Th2 cells and the role of chosen cytokines in atopic dermatitis

Journal Title: Postępy Dermatologii i Alergologii - Year 2006, Vol 23, Issue 2

Abstract

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common diseases in children. This article presents current views on immunological mechanisms that take place in pathogenesis of AD. The role of disturb differentiation of T helper cells and thus promoting subpopulation Th2 cells instead of Th1 cells was shown. Moreover, the role of chosen cytokines, both subpopulations Th1 and Th2, in particular IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-13 and IL-18 was presented. Furthermore, the role of apoptosis as well as participation of CCR4 receptor and its TARC ligand in course of atopic dermatitis were discussed.
