DISTRIBUTION OF ALLELIC VARIANTS AND GENOTYPES OF THE SOD2 ALA16VAL GENE (RS4880) IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOMERULONEPHRITIS

Abstract
The SOD2 gene, encoding the mitochondrial superoxide dismutase enzyme, plays a critical role in oxidative stress management within cellular environments. The Ala16Val polymorphism (rs4880) has been implicated in various pathophysiological conditions, including glomerulonephritis (GN). This study aims to elucidate the distribution of allelic variants and genotypes of the SOD2 Ala16Val variant in patients diagnosed with glomerulonephritis. Utilizing a cohort of GN patients, we performed genotyping and analyzed the correlation between SOD2 variants and clinical parameters. Our findings indicate a significant association between the Val16 allele and an increased risk of developing GN, suggesting that genetic predisposition may influence disease susceptibility and progression. These results underscore the importance of genetic factors in glomerular diseases and highlight the potential for personalized therapeutic strategies based on individual genetic profiles.
