Dramatic Elevation inParathyroid Hormone after Denosumab Administration in a Woman with Scleroderma
Journal Title: Journal of Orthopedics & Rheumatology - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Denosumab (Prolia), an injectable human monoclonal antibody with affinity for nuclear factor-kappa ligand (RANKL), is approved for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men at high risk for fracture, or patients who have failed or are intolerant of ther treatments. There have been case reports of denosumab leading to elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) among patients with severe renal impairment, defined as creatinine clearances under 30 mL/min or on dialysis, which is the level at which the manufacturer suggests monitoring for hypocalcemia. We report a case of a marked increase in PTH in a woman with suspected malabsorption due to scleroderma, without severe renal impairment, whose intractable diarrhea limited her treatment options.

Topical Phytotherapy: Management of Deranged Anatomical and Abnormal Biochemical Risk Factors during Failed Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Unique Case Study
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the ultimate answer to treat knee osteoarthritis (KOA) worldwide. The main purpose of TKA is to relief pain and to improve the day to day functional activities. But during failed TKA, var...
We are all Orthopedic, not “orthopaed-ic” or straight-child-ish… from “παιδιον”/paedion (=child) of Andry’s book for children!
There is a considerable difference between the spelling of the word «Orthopaedics» and «Orthopaedics» in fact, the first one, («Orthopaedics»), is incorrect and inaccurate; it has been widely used and copied as the corre...
Topical Phytotherapeutic Treatment: Management of Normalization of Elevated Levels of Biochemical Parameter During Osteoarthritic Disorders: A prospective Study
Background: C-reactive protein (CRP), creatine kinase-muscle (CK-MM) and aldolase A (AldoA) levels are proven to be realistic biochemical markers of osteoarthritic disorders (OADs). The aim of this study is to normalize...
Ex-vivo Evaluation of 99mTc Labeled Glucosamine Sulfate(99mTcGS) in Articular Cartilage. Relevance for Osteoarthritis Imaging
Background: Glucosamine sulfate (GS) is widely used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, but no data concerning the local uptake of GS in articular cartilage exist. For this reason we performed radiolabeling of GS (Rottap...
