EDUCAR PARA UM FUTURO SUSTENTÁVEL: O PAPEL DA EDUCAÇÃO NA BUSCA PELA SUSTENTABILIDADE

Abstract

In recent years the conflicting character of the relationship between society and the environment has become more noticeable, with exponential growth and environmental aggression. It is in this sense that the notion of development from a sustainable perspective emerges, that is, development that, in addition to economic growth, takes into account social inclusion and environmental protection. Such development depends on paradigmatic changes that reflect comprehensive ethical values. Therefore, it is necessary to move forward in the construction of a holistic and world-integrating world view, one which is not restricted to a simplistic view of nature as a central concern, but which seeks to think of man-nature integration as a whole. Since education is often considered an important tool for humanization, socialization and transformation of society, this study aims to discuss the role of education in achieving sustainable development. For this, we discuss the role of education in contemporary society, concepts related to sustainable development, and approaches to education for sustainability. By using these approaches together, it is possible to link education and sustainability towards a sustainable future.
