Effect of Cutter Width on Shear Force during Grooving

Abstract

In this paper contains the determination of the cutting forces with experimental measurements according to the variations in the cutting parameters during grooving operation to the outer surface and the effect of the insert width on the cutting forces. For this purpose; a variety of experiments were carried out the AISI 1050 work-piece material with grooving insert widths have 2 mm, 4 mm, and 6 mm using different cutting parameters. The cutting forces that occur during grooving operation were measured by Kistler 9257B dynamometer. The study results showed that the feeding rate value is more decisive than the cutting speed in terms of the magnitude of the cutting forces, the passive forces are greater than the primary cutting forces and the axial forces are negligible compared to other cutting forces.
