Effect Of Different Harvesting Times On The Dry Matter Yield And Some Forage Quality Characteristics Of Common Reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin Ex. Steud)

Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2022, Vol 6, Issue 3

Abstract

The human population is increasing day by day in our country and in the world. This situation brings with it the need for animal foods. Forage crops, which are the basis of animal husbandry, could not increase at a level to meet the need for animal products due to factors such as soil and environment, and even started to be insufficient in terms of proportion. For this reason, the search for forage plant sources has started in agricultural areas. In this study, one of the plants that can be a feed source is the common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin Ex. Steud) plant belonging to the Poaeceae family common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trın Ex. Steud) plant, which is the research material, was harvested in 2020. In the data obtained; ADF, NDF, Crude oil, crude ash, crude fiber In the 1st harvest. For this reason, it has been determined that it can be an alternative feed plant source for animals by being harvested in different periods according to the nutritional content needed by the animals. In the research, it is thought that the cane plant can be used as an alternative forage plant in the periods when the forage plant deficit increases. period, the dry matter ratio and dry matter yield were found to be at the most productive level in the 3rd harvest period. from the wetlands of Çiğli county within the 4th Region of İzmir Gediz Basin at different development periods and dry matter yield and some quality characteristics were examined.
