Effect of gamma radiation on potato variety ‘Desirée’ calli
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2007, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
The present investigation was developed with the objective to determine the effect of gamma radiation on potato variety ‘Desirée’ calli to induce variability. Calli obtained from leaves of in vitro plants were irradiated with doses of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 Gy gamma radiations. Fresh weight of calli, survival of these for radiation dose and number of regenerated plants per callus was evaluated. A decrease in the weight of calli was observed when radiations doses were increased. The dose of 10 Gy was selected for the massive treatments of potato var. ‘Desirée’ calli with gamma radiations. These dose was closer to DL 50 and GR 50 , favoring to diminish the growth in 53.37% and to obtain a regeneration percentage of 71.25% .
