Effect of Selected Botanicals and Spinosad on Shoot and Fruit Borer (Leucinodes Orbonalis Gueene) and Natural Enemies in Brinjal Ecosystem
Journal Title: International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences (IJCMAS) - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 7
Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during kharif, 2016 at SHUATS, Allahabad (U.P.) to compare the efficacy of selected botanicals, Spinosad against brinjal shoot and fruit borer, (Leucinodes orbonalis Guen.). All the seven treatments spinosad, neemoil, pongamia oil, NSKE, neem leaf extract, garlic extract and papaya leaf extract reduced the infestation as compared to the untreated control. The minimum percent of shoot infestation at first spray and percent fruit infestation at second spray were observed in spinosad with (4.78%, 6.38%) respectively, followed by neem oil and pongamia oil (8.47%, 9.68% and 9.85%,10.28%) which is reported as the next effective treatment. Out of seven different selected botanicals and spinosad spray, spinosad recorded significantly highest marketable fruit yield of 222.0 q/ha followed by pongamia oil (213.5 q/ha), neem oil (180.5 q/ha). The population of predatory coccinellid beetles and spider in different treatments was uniform (0.66 to 1.00 and 0.46 to 0.63/plant) indicating the safety of all treatments to the coccinellid predators and spiders.
