Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 6, Issue 10

Abstract

This study aimed at finding the difference in learning ESP course materials by university students concerning the question that who is more qualified to teach ESP, an ELT teacher or ESP instructor. Two groups were used for the study that was taught by two different teachers: an ELT teacher (general English teacher) and an ESP instructor (accounting course specialist instructor). The study was performed at Islamic Azad University in Hidaj with 60 participants--male and female-- who were majoring in ‘accounting.’ The subjects were randomly divided into two groups, each with 30 students. One of the groups was taught by the ELT teacher and the other one by an ESP instructor. They were taught in four one-hour sessions in different classes in four weeks and finally took an achievement test. After analyzing the results of the test, and by comparing the means of the scores using t-test,though the means of students’ scores were slightly different, it was shownthat there was no significant difference between the students of the two groups regarding their achievement in learning ESP course materials.
