Abstract
The walls are a key element both for the defense of the city and for its identity in pursuit of máximum beauty and monumentality. For this purpose, plaster is going to be used, although it may seem surprising because it is a material with endless properties that allow to have an ideal wall. Its most outstanding characteristics are that it serves as a defensive “cushion”, it makes the wall more resistant to sieges because it makes more difficult for attackers to break the wall, it embellishes the structure… But the most interesting utility of all is its high resistance to the fire. This characteristic increases as the plaster presents a greater quantity of impurities. This shows us that walls like those of Begastri present these qualities due to specific functions that are not subject to chance.
