Entre le « ventre » et le « bas ventre », la urban (porn) music camerounaise dans tous ses états !
Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
Between the “Stomach” and “Under the Stomach”, the Cameroonian Urban (Porn) Music in all its Forms! Our aim in this article is to show that the rhythm bikutsi originating from the Central and South-Cameroon zone has become pornographic music with different influences of globalization. Knowing that the city is a lexical matrix, we proposed to try to understand how these musical speeches are constructed and shown. In other words, how they reveal a new reconfiguration of the Cameroonian social and artistic space through the valorization of sex in the sense of its desecration. To answer this problem, urban-sociolinguistics was used as an operational concept, which allowed us to understand how bikutsi heavily borrows from Western and African pornography. The study focuses on the music excerpts of six female singers for a total of twenty-one titles published between 1995 and 2016. Overall, we find that the studied music evokes sex without borrowing from the medical discourse or the anatomy of the human body but in-stead borrowing from the words of slang or familiar lexicon. On the other hand, this music evokes the sexual act. All these might contribute to excitation effects on the receivers.
