Environmental Protection: Constitutional and Legal Provisions

Abstract
Abstract: The environment protection needs immediate attention worldwide. A good environment helps all-round development of one’s personality and a bad environment inhibits its development. It has been realised that the protection and improvement of the human environment is a major issue affecting not only the living men and animals but also non-living. It is the duty of all Governments and urgent need for the people of the whole world that protection and improvement of environment problem should be given proper attention. The gravity of seriousness relating to the problem of environment is evident from the fact that in all the advanced countries scientists, economist, policy makers and administrators have given serious thought to environmental problems. The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development having met at Rio de Janerio from 3 to 14th June, 1992 reaffirmed the Declaration of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, adopted at Stockholm on 16th June, 1972 and sought to build upon it, with the object of establishing a new and equitable global partnership through the creation of new level of co-operation among nation states, key sectors of societies and people, working towards international agreements which respect the interest of all and protect the integrity of the global environmental and developmental system, recognizing the interdependent nature of the Earth, our home. The Government of India participated in the Stockholm Conference and strongly voiced the environmental concerns.
