EPIDERMOID CYST : Ultrasound Imaging Spectrum & Pattern Recognition
Journal Title: International Journal Of Medical Case Reports - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Epidermoid cysts also known as epidermal inclusion cysts, epidermal cysts or follicular infundibular cysts are uncommon benign lesions usually seen in head, neck or extremities. They present as painless cystic swellings. Pain and tenderness may be present if they are secondarily infected. Imaging diagnosis is done by ultrasound which shows a characteristic pseudotesticular pattern. Color doppler examination may show peripheral rim of vascularity in case of inflammation or rupture. Familiarity with the characteristic ultrasound features of epidermoid cyst will help in early diagnosis.
