Estimating of Sediments using EPM Method in Chelleh Watershed Area of Gilan-Gharb

Abstract

Soil erosion is a quiet crisis that is not clearly understood. Implementation of soil conservation programs and determining ways to compete with erosion and reduce sediment removal and also calculating the designing accurate size of the reservoir dams, needs to evaluate and estimate total annual sediment volume in the watershed. EPM is a common practice in the world used in the areas of soil erosion and sediment production in order to evaluate the severity of erosion. In this research, data are analyzed using AutoCAD, Photoshop, excel, Are View, ArcGIS software. The slope has an important role in runoff rate, permeability, Severity of floods and the amount of erosion. To estimate the amount of erosion and sedimentation using the EPM method and base on parameters such as the erosion coefficient, coefficient of land use, soil erosion sensitivity coefficients, moderate slope, Chelleh Area is divided into five subareas and according to the results, the subareas has compared. Comparison has showed that specific erosion in subarea number 4 is higher than the other subareas due to its higher slope and user type.
