EUROPEAN INTEGRATION EFFORTS OF CROATIA IN 2005–2006

Abstract
This article analyzes the key aspects of the Croatia – European Union relations in 2005–2006, which moved this Balkan country closer to implementing its European integration course. Particular attention is paid to efforts of the Croatian authorities to launch the pre-accession negotiations with the European Union, as well as factors that had a direct impact on the Euro-integration dialogue between Croatia and the European Union. In this context, emphasis is placed on problems in cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which postponed the official launch of the pre-accession negotiations with the European Union, and measures taken by the Croatian authorities to settle them. The article analyzes the organizational structure of the Croatian negotiating mechanism, which were established in order to implement the whole complex of measures envisaged by the pre-accession negotiations. Significant achievements of Croatia in the negotiation process with the European Union are highlighted, in particular, country`s progress in meeting the European Union criteria.
