Evaluating the Suspended Sediment of Mahabad Dam Using Statistical Methods
Journal Title: Journal of River Engineering - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 7
Abstract
Dam construction is one of the methods for storing surface water. Estimating the service life and economic efficiency of dam is one of the most important cases in estimating the design of it. The most important problem that threatens the useful life of the dam is input sediment to reservoir. Life expectancy of a dam reservoir is measured with respect to the incoming sediments. Estimation of suspended sediment in rivers plays an important role in estimating the useful life of dams. Many methods such as statistical methods USBR (United States Bureau of Reclamation) and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) and moderate categories method are used to measure suspended. In this research the mentioned statistical and some other methods are used in Mahabad dam. By using sediment volume and the estimated flow rate Sediment loads is measured at different times in this method and its accuracy is estimated by correlation coefficient. The gained results show that the sedimentation estimates by using USBR and FAO with two correlation curves methods are useful and have more correlation coefficient.

Impacts of Land Use and Climate Change on Flood Events (Case Study: Ferdows)
Flood is defined as an overflow of water that submerges land which is usually dry. Today, many parts of the world experience unexpected flood events due to different reasons. Among the most important factors, land use...
Estimating Earthen Dam-Breach Parameters
Dam failure leads to release of high volume of water which causes huge waves in downstream. Failure in dam may cause financial loss but life losses depend on the drowned zone, population residing in downstream of the...
Comparison of Evapotranspiration Models for Estimating Reference Evapotranspiration in an Arid and semiarid Region, Northeast of Iran
In this study, evapotranspiration (ET0) was determined by several models for Bojnord city in Khorasan province. Outputs were obtained from IMO (Iran Meteorological Organization) weather station, located in the Bojnord...
Investigation of the capability of a Numerical model to simulate a Mining Pit in River Bed
Rivers are the most essential source of aggregates for civil works such as construction of roads, canals, concrete buildings and many other construction purposes. However, the improper mining of sand and gravel from bed...
Control of Local Scour around Bridge Pier Groups Using Geotextile Armored soil
In this paper, reduction of scour around group of two and three piers using geotextile layer has been carried out for the case of clear-water flow over uniform sediment. The results reveal that geotextile layer has a...
