EVALUATION OF ASTHI DHATU KSHAYA IN KESHA PRAPATAN
Journal Title: International Journal of Ayurveda & Alternative Medicine - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 4
Abstract
Hair care is million-dollar business in the modern era and the market today has a wide range of preparations in varied forms like oils, gels, conditioners not to forget different dyes and colours exclusively for hair. "The art of medicine is to amuse the patient while nature cures the disease" (Valarie 1600-1) This seem to have more relevance with regard to Hair as the effectiveness of medicines is always under scrutiny. Hence, it is worth a discussion on whether all those medicines and cosmetic preparations under the guise of medicines are good for hair. This article is an observational and fundamental study on Kesha Prapatan(Hair loss) and Asthi Kshaya, to re-establish the exact relation between Asthi Dhatu and Kesha Mala. Subjects with Kesha Prapatan were analysed with bone mass densitometer (BMD) for assessment of Asthi Kshaya. The possible causes of Kesha Prapatan were assessed with respect to Ayurveda and modern science. Then the other signs and symptoms of Asthi Kshaya were also examined. This provided us the correct pathophysiology of Kesha Prapatan and a proper line of treatment for Kesha Prapatan and not merely depending on external hair applications and therapies.
