Evaluation of damage effect of 300 kg TNT on sheep
Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 3
Abstract
Objective To evaluate the damage to sheep at different distances after static explosion of 300kg TNT, and to explore the rules of injury, so as to provide the basis for the evaluation of biological damage effect and the prevention and rescue of ammunition. Methods Fourteen sheep were randomly numbered and placed on the left and right sides at different distances from the TNT explosive (17. 0, 20. 0, 23. 5, 27. 0, 33. 5, 40. 0, and 53. 5 m), the survival status, injury status and tissue and organ damage after dissection of sheep were observed on site after static explosion, and the injury status was comprehensively evaluated according to relevant standards. Results The on-site mortality rate of sheep was 14. 3% , and the on-site mortality margin was 23. 5 m. With the increase of the distance from the explosion point, the damage of sheep was reduced and the injury was alleviated. Eardrum membrane, lung, trachea, limb and heart were the main tissues or organs damaged in sheep after static explosion. Conclusion The damage of TNT static explosion on sheep decreases with the increase of the distance from the explosion point. The injury form is mainly combined injury composed of blast injury and fragment injury. Lung and heart injury is the main cause of death in sheep, and the protection of lung and heart should be enhanced before explosion.
