Evaluation of the cytotoxicity of three root canal sealers used in obturation of radicular canals system
Journal Title: RSBO - Year 2009, Vol 6, Issue 1
Abstract
Introduction and objective: To determine in vitro the cytotoxicity of a zinc oxide-eugenol based sealer (Endofill) and two others epoxy resin based sealers (Sealers 26 and AH Plus) under the VERO C1008 cells line.Material and methods:The cytotoxicity was assessed through a new reagent that has been used in immunology to extinguish fluorescence, called FluoroQuenchTM AO/EB, and the dye use was made in order to evaluate the morphological cell changes at three observation periods:24, 48 and 72 hours after the contact with the cements. Results:There were differences in mean cell viability values by Anova and t-student tests. In all periods Endofill and Sealer 26, both fresh and set states, caused a significant decrease in the density and cell morphology. Conclusion:AH Plus proved to be the less toxic soon after the manipulation, and a small toxic reaction could be seen when it has been tested after the hardening.
