EVALUATION OF THE PROTECTIVE ROLE OF MORINGA OLEIFERA LEAF EXTRACT IN MALE MICE TREATED WITH PARACETAMOL USING MOLECULAR ASSAYS.
Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 8
Abstract
The leaves of Moringa oleifera have antioxidant compounds such as carotenoids, ascorbic acid, phenolics and flavonoids. The present study was conducted to assess the protective role of Moringa oleifera leaves extract against the genotoxic effect induced by antipyretic drug Paracetamol on male mice. Mice were treated with single doses 500, 2000 mg/ kg and a 7 consecutive doses of 500, 2000 mg/ kg of Paracetamol for seven days. They were orally administered 200 mg/ kg of Moringa either before or after treatment of Paracetamol. DNA fragmentation test in liver tissue and performing electrophoretic pattern of DNA extracted from liver tissue. The results showed that the treatment Paracetamol induced a significant increased in DNA damage. Oral administration of Moringa oleifera leaf extract either pre or post Paracetamol treatment was effective in improving the incidence of DNA integrity. It is obvious that using Moringa oleifera as before treatment is better than using it after treatment. Moringa oleifera leaf extract successfully ameliorated the genotoxicity of Paracetamol on male mice.
