Evolution of the Opposition Movements in Selected States of Central and Eastern Europe

Abstract

The article presents the development of opposition movements in five countries of the CEE region: Hungary, GDR, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia. The events presented and analysed in the article encompass the period from the end of the Second World War, through the implementation of a socialist form of government to times of great political and social upheaval in 1989/1990. The author presents convergent and divergent patterns of opposition evolution in the selected countries and their impact on the change of the states’ political system.
