Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Superheated Steam Production in Twin Cylindrical Groove Type Solar Energy Concentrator

Abstract

There is a requirement of steam production for industrial purposes and electrical power. Consantrating solar radiation by parabolic collectors, it can be generated high temperatured steam. In this study, cylindirical-parabolic through solar collector manufactured for steam production while reflecting surface trace the sun east-west direction, absorbing surface on focus is fixed. In the system, the area of cylindrical parabolic mirror is 54 m and focal length 12 m. The collectors are sloped at of the region in direct of north-south. Solar energy is measured by piranometer placed on mirrors and is the performance of system calculated. With repeated the experiments on different flow rates and pressures, superheated steam of 110-160º C is produced. In this system, thermal power and thermal efficiency values optained by experimentally and theoretically are compared with each others, the performance of the system investigated. As a result, thermal efficiency of the system ranged between 0.31 and 0.39.
