FEATURES OF PERIODONTITIS TREATMENT IN PATIENTS WITH ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE

Abstract
Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth, is increasingly recognized as a systemic health concern. A significant body of evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship between periodontitis and ischemic heart disease (IHD), which is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. This study aims to investigate the specific features of periodontal treatment in patients with IHD and to identify key therapeutic considerations that ensure both periodontal and cardiovascular safety. A controlled clinical study was conducted involving patients with chronic generalized periodontitis, divided into groups based on the presence or absence of IHD. Clinical outcomes, treatment modifications, and safety parameters were evaluated over a 3-month period. IHD patients showed higher baseline periodontal inflammation, delayed healing, and increased risk of bleeding, requiring coordinated care with cardiologists. Nevertheless, with proper adjustments, successful periodontal outcomes were achieved. The management of periodontitis in patients with IHD requires individualized, multidisciplinary care. Dentists must be aware of systemic risks and adapt treatment accordingly.
