Feeding in infancy: approach for oral health promotion

Abstract

Introduction and objective: The purpose of this article is to present updated information on healthy diet in infancy to dentists, since feeding habits may directly affect patients’ oral and general health. Literature review:Considering the health promotion paradigm and the need of interaction between dentistry and other health fields, aiming to life quality and welfare, the article reports on the pediatric patient feeding according to the ideal time for introducing new foods, that is, complementary feeding. Conclusion: Therefore, clinicians will be able to provide food options when performing nutrition counseling for parents and/or guardians of 0- to 3-year-old patients.
