Journal Title: Más Vita - Year 2022, Vol 4, Issue 4

Abstract

Introduction: The diabetic foot is one of the complications that occurs most frequently in patients with type 2 diabetes; initial antibiotic treatment is an option to prevent disease progression to amputation of part or all of the lower extremity. The choice of the ideal antimicrobial can be a challenge for the health professional who is faced with a patient with this pathology. Objective: To know the first-line antibiotics used in the treatment of diabetic foot with mild infection. Materials and methods:A bibliographic review is carried out and databases are consulted together with Google Scholar; Subsequently, a systematic analysis of the sources is carried out and the results found are evidenced. Results:Of the articles found, two were not considered because they did not include antibiotic treatment in the content. Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and, in case of allergy, levofloxacin, are the first-line antibiotics considered for the treatment of diabetic foot with mild infections. Conclusions: It can be concluded that the choice of an ideal antibiotic for the treatment of diabetic foot could prevent amputations of part or all of the affected limb
