For The Love of Polka Dots: Osteopoikilosis

Journal Title: Gujarat Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 72, Issue 1

Abstract

Of the many obscure benign systemic bone diseases, osteopoikilosis (ostitis condensans generalisata or osteopathia condensans disseminata) is one of the most interesting. It is a congenital hereditary condition in which there are small areas of compact bone within the cancellated structures of almost all bones, sans skull, mandible and clavicles . Initially described by Albers-Schonberg in 1915, it is occasionally associated with cutaneous lesions as well as other osteosclerotic skeletal disorders . We report a case of incidentally found rampant osteopoikilosis in a 26 year old male.
