From the history of the study of soils Northwest Black Sea Region (1957-1961)

Abstract
Purpose. The article is devoted to the development of soil science research within the Northwestern Black Sea (Odessa and Nikolaev regions) during 1957-1961 years. The aim of the article is to reflect the scientific heritage of soil-geographic research on the territory northwest of the Black Sea and to show their importance for further research. Data&Methods. The source base of research was used as literature and archival materials, as well as individual achievements of modern scientists for studying the history of soil science. The logical and analytical, subject-chronological, comparative-historical and descriptive methods were used to achieve this purpose. These methods made it possible to highlight the features of soil science studies the examined period. Results. It was deals the methodical, scientific and organizational support of survey of soils during the 1957-1961. Found that the survey conducted by teams of leading scientists using the same method made it possible to obtain reliable picture of the geographical distribution of soils, agro-industrial characteristic, methods of improving soil fertility. It was defined the role of these studies for the implementation of science-based land management, land-cadastral works, soil quality, economic, environmental, monetary valuation of land. The necessity of modern large-scale survey to ensure the rational use and protection of soils was grounded.
