Functional and radiological outcome of operative management of fractures of distal end of radius with locking compression plates
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Introduction: Closed reduction and cast immobilization has been the mainstay of treatment of these fractures but malunion of fracture and subluxation/dislocation of distal radioulnar joint resulting in poor functional and cosmetic results is the usual outcome. The residual deformity of the wrist adversely affects wrist motion and hand function by interfering with the mechanical advantage of extrinsic hand musculature. Methodology: This prospective study was conducted in patients on intra-articular distal end of radius fractures treated with volar locking plate in department of orthopedics. Twenty adult patients were included in this study. Results: LCP with combination holes gives surgeons the opportunity to combine the principles of internal fixation and dynamic compression. Conclusion: Recent studies indicates that the pitfalls faced due to a LCP system have nothing to do with the implant but is attributed to the nonobservation of important basic principles of the concept of biological osteosynthesis.

Male sex preponderance in cerebral palsy
Introduction: Cerebral palsy affects 2 – 3 per 1000 live children. It is a group of movement and postural disorders due to non progressive lesion in the immature brain. There are several proposed antenatal, intra natal,...
Pre-operative group and save for elective total knee Arthroplasty: Is it indicated?
Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a commonly performed surgical procedure in UK. Routine use of tourniquets and tranexamic acid raises the question of whether pre-operative group and save (G&S) is necessary. M...
Outcome analysis of interlocking nailing for tibial shaft fractures
The results of closed intramedullary nailing technique are excellent for treating fractures of the tibial shaft. We decided to analyse the outcome of primary interlocking nailing done for tibial fractures. All patients w...
Does accelerated bone healing associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI) occur in open fractures
Aim: Accelerated bone healing has been frequently reported in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, all these reports are restricted to closed fractures and there is no literature of the effect of TBI in o...
Functional evaluation of proximal femoral fractures managed with cephalomedullary nailing by oxford hip score - A prospective study
Fixation of proximal femoral fractures by cephalomedullary nailing has become very popular due to the superior biomechanics and prevention of various complications associated with sliding hip screw. Material and Methods:...
