FURNISHINGS OF FORTIFICATION STRUCTURES OF FESTUNG BRESLAU (FORTRESS WROCLAW) PART I – BUILDING IN PEACETIME

Abstract
The authors describe an attempt to recreate the furnishings of Festung Breslau’s fortifica-tions, which were erected according to strictly defined designs in the years 1890–1914. The furnishings included folding chairs, communication equipment and ventilation system compo-nents. Only small fragments of furnishing details still survive; these principally include as-sembly components in floors, walls and vaults. An analysis of their locations conducted by the authors, combined with information from various technical guides, has enabled a highly likely theoretical recreation (which perhaps one day will turn into a practical one) of the interior of the casemates of Wroclaw’s infantry bunkers at the time of their historical basic functions.
