GENERASI MILENIAL DAN ABSURDITAS DEBAT KUSIR VIRTUAL
Journal Title: INFORMASI - Year 2018, Vol 48, Issue 1
Abstract
Recent days witness the prominence of ‘virtual silly debate’, often associated with the increase usage of social media by the millennial generation. According to the psychological approach, the youth engagement in the silly debate is driven by their unstable, selfish, and emotional psychological traits. I argue that the young engagement in the silly debate is triggered by their inability to filter the content of the social media, currently dominated by hate speech and hoax. The youth believe that such content represents the truth and try to defend it as hard as possible. To address the problem, we need to enforce the law and educate the young to competently handling content published in social media. Another solution is internalizing Pancasila values and norms that can encourage the young to use social media productively.
