Generic Modular Ontology for Innovation Domain. A Key Pillar Towards “Innovation Interoperability”

Journal Title: Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation - Year 2017, Vol 13, Issue 2

Abstract

In a century of complexity, organizatons are moving towards open innovaton. So, contemporary Innovaton Management Systems have to deal with the distributed, heterogeneous and fast growing characteristcs of knowledge that are available in different forms and are rather weakly structured. In additon, the increasing degree of specializaton and interdependence between and among organizatons calls for group capabilites at the organizatonal level to interoperate with others to produce not only novel, but also critcally acclaimed innovatons. This is the focus of this paper that introduces the new concept of “Innovaton Interoperability”. Then, it formalizes and represents semantcally the key concepts underlying a systematc innovaton approach and the relatons between them, through a Generic Modular Ontology, we have called “GenID Ontology”. The later consists of three interconnected subontologies, referring to the key dimensions of successful innovaton within an open context, which are: Core-ideas, Actors and Context. This paper has adopted a mixed research strategy and uses a qualitatve online survey to examine the delivered constructs.
