Geometrical, fractal and hydraulic properties of fractured reservoirs: A mini-review
Journal Title: Advances in Geo-Energy Research - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Fractures and fracture networks play an important role in ?uid ?ow and transport properties of oil and gas reservoirs. Accurate estimation of geometrical characteristics of fracture networks and their hydraulic properties are two key research directions in the ?elds of ?uids ?ow in fractured porous media. Recent works focusing on the geometrical, fractal and hydraulic properties of fractured reservoirs are reviewed and summarized in this mini-review. The effects of several important parameters that signi?cantly in?uences hydraulic properties are speci?cally discussed and analyzed, including fracture length distribution, aperture distribution, boundary stress and anisotropy. The methods for predicting fractal dimension of fractures and models for fracture networks and fractured porous media based on fractal-based approaches are addressed. Some comments and suggestions are also given on the future research directions and fractal fracture networks as well as fractured porous media.

Non-Darcy displacement by a non-Newtonian fluid in porous media according to the Barree-Conway model
An analytical solution for describing the non-Darcy displacement of a Newtonian fluid by a non-Newtonian fluid in porous media has been developed. The two-phase non-Darcy flow is described using the Barree-Conway model u...
Numerical simulations for analyzing deformation characteristics of hydrate-bearing sediments during depressurization
Natural gas hydrates have been treated as a potential energy resource for decades. Understanding geomechanical properties of hydrate-bearing porous media is an essential to protect the safety of individuals and devices d...
Biological marker indicators of paleo-depositional environment for the Eocene formations around Zara-Bolucan region (central anatolia, Turkey)
Biological marker (biomarker) characteristics and paleo-depositional conditions of Eocene sediments around Zara-Bolucan northeast of Sivas Basin have been determined by means of detail organic geochemical studies such as...
Study on facies-controlled model of a reservoir in Xijiang 24-3 oilfield in the Northern Pearl River Mouth Basin
To better understand the internal structure of the Xijiang 24-3 Oilfield in the Northern Pearl River Mouth Basin, a reasonable and effective three-dimensional quantitative geological model is needed to characterize the d...
Nonlinear flow in low permeability reservoirs: Modelling and experimental verification
The low-permeability reservoirs are of heavy heterogeneity, low permeability, fine oil-water passages, strong resistance during flow, and the significant interaction between solid and liquid interfaces causes the flow of...
