Good practices, standards and techniques of project management

Abstract
The first part of this article gives a presentation of a key terminology in relation to project management and shows differences between an idea of a project management and a management by project. It also contains the specialists’ opinions on the advancement of project management implementation in Polish companies. The following part of the paper describes standards of project management that are used in Poland. These include: PMBOK®Guide (created by PMI), PRINCE2 (created by CCTA) and ICB IMPA (created by IMPA).The final part of the paper refers to project management partly financed form European Union funds. After having characterized the basic strategic document for the development of Poland (NSRO 2007–2013), a reader can learn something about a “Project Management Cycle”. It’s a document published by the European Commission to simplify the management of the project.
