Journal Title: Записки з українського мовознавства - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 24
Abstract
Peculiarities of functioning of Ukrainian football vocabulary in literary texts, written in 30-40-ies of ХХ century in Halychyna (short stories by Ivan Smolii, comedy “Korol striltsiv” by Ivan Kernytskyi and the story “The wind over Yanivska” by Zenon Tarnavskyi) have been explored. Semantics of football lexemes used in literary works of different genres has been analyzed, thematic classification of special nominations in them has also been made. It has been found out that the majority of football vocabulary functions in direct meaning but it has also been said that there are examples of semantic transformations of football names in the structure of a literary text as well. Observations over functioning of football terminology in the analyzed literary works made it possible to reveal certain tendencies in formation of national football terminological system in the 30-40-ies of ХХ century, which proves value of literary texts as the source of information about the development of Ukrainian football discourse.
