HISTOGENESIS OF HUMAN FETAL RENAL MEDULLA
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomy and Research - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
Introduction: Histogenesis of kidney gives knowledge regarding histological maturity of kidney and its functional status at the given gestational age. Kidney is developed from two parts, metanephrogenic blastema and ureteric bud. Metanephrogenic blastema gives origin to secretory part i.e. nephron while ureteric bud forms the collecting part i.e. collecting tubules and ureter. Both these parts fuse with each other and the development becomes complete. Materials and Methods: 50 aborted human fetuses between 13-36 weeks of gestational age were used for this study with no obvious congenital anomalies. The 2-3 mm thick cut sections of both kidneys were taken, processed and Paraffin blocks were prepared. 5-7 micron thick sections were taken with rotary microtome, mounted and then stained with Haematoxylin and Eosin. Microscopic features were observed in low and high power and then documented. Results and Discussion: Differentiation between cortex and medulla was seen from 16-18 week onwards. The medulla with collecting ducts, thick and thin segment of loop of Henle became well differentiated from 16 week onwards. Vascularity of medulla increased with increase in gestational age while connective tissue decreased with increase in gestational age. Renal pelvis was lined by transitional epithelium.
MORPHOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF FORAMEN MAGNUM IN ADULT HUMAN DRY SKULL OF GUJARAT REGION
Background: Morphometric analysis of the foramen magnum of dry human skulls in Gujarat region was carried out to demonstrate the anatomical variations in morphology. The measurements of the foramen magnum are clinically...
A STUDY OF VARIATIONS IN THE ORIGIN OF SUPERIOR CEREBELLAR ARTERY AND THE DIMENSIONS OF ITS PROXIMAL SEGMENT
Background: Since many clinical conditions affecting the brain stem are the results of vascular lesions, profound knowledge of vertebrobasilar circulation is of utmost clinical importance.Variations in the origin of supe...
THE EFFECT OF ZINGIBER OFFICINALE (GINGER) ROOT ETHANOLIC EXTRACT ON THE SEMEN CHARACTERISTICS OF ADULT MALE WISTAR RATS
Background: Ginger has been shown to have a positive effect on the function of the male reproductive organ. Studies have shown that ginger possess antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticholestereolemic, anticance...
ULTRASONOGRAPHIC MEASUREMENT OF RENAL DIMENSIONS: IT’S CORRELATION WITH BODY SURFACE AREA IN ADULTS
Introduction: Ultrasound is the first imaging modality used to assess the kidneys and renal tract due to its easy accessibility, lack of radiation and low cost. The size of kidney is considered an important indicator for...
INCIDENCE OF THE THIRD AND FOURTH HEAD OF THE BICEPS BRACHII MUSCLE IN CAUCASIAN RACE – A STUDY AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Anatomic variations in the heads of biceps brachii are not uncommon. It varies from one head to seven heads but two heads (long and short) are considered normal. In this study, 56 arms from 28 cadavers were studied for t...
