Abstract

The article reviews the theoretical doctrines, considering the challenges of globalization in the socio-cultural dimension. The studies determine the essential features of globalization and the prospects of its impact on the pace and direction of cultural and civilizational process. The debate on the effects of globalization affecting philosophical and ideological problems of the world order. The term «globalization» in the scientifi c revolution came rather late. It was fi rst taken in 1983 by the American T. Levitt in an article in «Harvard Business Review». But it has gained popularity thanks to the work of the American sociologist R.Robertson. Since then, the term has been widely spread and has received use not only in the scientifi c knowledge, but also in public relations – politics, journalism and even in everyday life. Discursive analysis of the problem shows that historically the term has long been designated as the extension of a common culture, language, architecture and lifestyle at different times. But to our days its basic constructs defi ning the character of globalization were multilevel geopolitical factors, ranging from ancient Greece and Rome, Britain at the time of colonization, and ending of unidirectional US infl uence in our times. Researcher V. Voronkova notes that globalization – is a complex process that combines the interpretation of identities and differences of universalism and particularism. V.V. Lyakh believes that globalization creates unstable world in which transformation affecting all spheres of social and individual life. Jean Baudriyard holds the view that the West has become the dominant force and it is the destruction of other civilizations. A.Nazarchuk classifi es the methodological approaches to the systematic study of globalization. In diversity literature two opposite directions are traced: some authors believe that globalization will give positive impact to stabilize social relations, while others believe that it is a preparing for a social revolution. Despite the different assessment of prospects, based of their criteria imposed rethinking the historical experience of socio-economic development of different eras.
