Identification of Obstacles to ERP Implementation in Iranian Manufacturing and Industrial Corporations

Abstract
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems were created two decades back. ERP systems are being or have been implemented in most incorporation. ERP systems implementation has three exorbitant outlays comprising software purchase, consultation with specialists and educating the staff to learn alterations effectuated due to ERP systems implementation. The aforesaid facts cause ERP projects to be more expensive than other projects. ERP systems execution encompasses onomatological complexities owing to the utilization of the latest technologies in the field of information technology and complicated ERP software, considering chief alterations in firm processes and organizational structure which originates from re-engineering of processes. This fact renders implementation of ERP system projects bodaciously distinguished from ordinary projects of information systems in disparate dimensions from the aspect of vastness, accomplishment limits, complexities, organizational changements, project outlays, and the requirements to make re-engineering of processes, therefore, effectuation of such projects is highly perilous in a manner that most of the ERP execution projects have undergone failures. Some efforts have been rendered in this research to identify and check ERP carrying-out hindrances in the Iranian manufacturing industrial incorporations in order to obliterate such impediments. Three companies including Sarcheshmeh cupreous firm, Sayna (Paksan) Hygienics Corporation, and Minoo industrial group have been opted for in a cluster-based methodology out of the statistical community of ERP implementation specialists in Iran. The pertinent questionnaires were dispensed and collected from the deft maestros of these three corporations. AHP methodology was utilized to pinpoint the priorities of carrying-out hindrances in Iranian manufacturing and industrial incorporations. Research corollaries denote that ERP implementation impediments in the Iranian manufacturing and industrial firms are prioritizingly as follows: organizational structural quandaries, cultural predicaments, strategic problems, technological plights, infrastructural quandaries (expert humans).
