Immediate Implant Placement and Early Loading A Predictable Prosthetic Rehab Protocol
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Dental Advancements - Year 2016, Vol 8, Issue 3
Abstract
In today's dental practice, we are in a revolutionary era of therapeutics facing the challenge of developing innovative treatment protocols with the introduction of endosseous dental implants, which have become the prosthetic standard of care in a wide range of clinical scenario. Implant placement in the maxillary anterior esthetic zone is one of the most challenging procedures for the clinician practicing implant dentistry. The conventional implant placement protocol requires 3-4 months of socket healing post extraction, so the patient needs to wait for approximately 1-1.5 years for complete prosthetic rehabilitation. To overcome these drawbacks Scully proposed the immediate implant placement and early loading protocol. Immediate implant placement into a fresh extraction socket is an accepted protocol to reduce the length of treatment duration as the socket healing and implant osseointegration can occur simultaneously. Here we present a case of immediate implant placement into the extraction socket and early loading of the implant with a PFM crown treated at our centre. The final outcome should showcase an implant-supported restoration in harmony with the existing dentition. Therefore, the clinician is required to take into account surgical and prosthetic factors, that affect the final clinical outcome. Failures in implant positioning and soft tissue management may lead to major esthetic failure.
