Improving the deposit policy of commercial banks in Azerbaijan

Abstract
A lending potential and objectives that cause the rise of banking system in Azerbaijan Republic have been studied. The role of the specific weight of deposits in foreign currency is analyzed. This paper presents the list of the first ten banks in terms of deposit portfolio. It is noted that an increase in the share of deposits in foreign currency is directly related to the February devaluation processes in the economy. It was found that the growth of the banking system of Azerbaijan needs to enhance the competitiveness of domestic banks on the basis of the merger and increasing bank capital.
