IN VIVO EVALUATION OF BUDESONIDE MICROSPHERES FOR COLON SPECIFIC DRUG DELIVERY
Journal Title: International Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences - Year 2016, Vol 8, Issue 4
Abstract
Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the in vivo behaviour of budesonide microspheres for colon targeted delivery. Methods: In vivo therapeutic effect was evaluated using trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) induced colitis in rats. The therapeutic effect was assessed by determining the damage score, clinical activity score, colon/body weight(C/B) ratio and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity measurement. The data were compared with standard drug 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). The targeting efficiency of the formulation was assessed by X-ray studies on the rabbit. Results: The study showed that oral administration of budesonide microspheres exerted an affirmative impact on the colonic ulcer healing by decreasing the area of ulceration, reducing the mass of colon by improving the symptoms of colitis. MPO activity decreased significantly after oral administration of microspheres. Histopathological studies carried out also confirmed the result. The X-ray studies revealed that the formulations were able to target the colon. Conclusion: The in vivo study confirmed the ability of budesonide microspheres in targeting the colonic region. Keywords: Budesonide, Colitis, Targeted delivery, Myeloperoxidase, Ulceration, Clinical activity score

SIMPLE METHOD FOR OPTIMIZATION OF HEPARIN AND ENOXAPARIN DETECTION USING AGAROSE GEL ELECTROPHORESIS
Objective: A simple gel electrophoresis method for low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWH) is required for use in a variety of laboratories to allow further identification and purification. This study aimed to optimize the...
DESIGN, SYNTHESIS, DOCKING STUDIES AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF 2-PHENYL-3-(SUBSTITUTED BENZO[d] THIAZOL-2-YLAMINO)-QUINAZOLINE-4(3H)-ONE DERIVATIVES AS ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS
Objective: A new series 2-phenyl-3-(substituted benzo[d] thiazol-2-ylamino)-quinazoline-4(3H)-one was prepared by the fusion method by reacting 2-phenyl benzoxazine with 2-hydrazino benzothiazole and it was evaluated for...
DEVELOPMENT AND IN VITRO EVALUATION OF MUCOADHESIVE BILAYER BUCCAL TABLETS OF CARVEDILOL
Objectives: Carvedilol (CVD) is a nonselective β-adrenergic blocker that suffers from low absolute bioavailability (25-35%) due to first-pass metabolism. CVD-loaded buccal tablets were developed as a promising approach...
SCREENING OF ANTIBIOFILM AND ANTI-QUORUM SENSING POTENTIAL OF VITEX TRIFOLIA IN PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA
Objective: In this present study the methanolic leaf extract of Vitex trifolia was assessed for its anti quorum sensing activity against acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL)-dependent virulence factors in Pseudomonas aeruginosa...
DETERMINATION OF RESIDUAL DIMETHYL SULFATE IN METHOXSALEN DRUG SUBSTANCE BY PRE-COLUMN DERIVATIZATION WITH STATIC HEADSPACE GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY
Objective: Dimethyl sulfate has been highlighted as potential genotoxic and carcinogenic impurity. A sensitive Headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC) method with pre-column derivatization was developed and validated for th...
