Increase of old age trees in forest of the Carpathian part of the Dniester river basin
Journal Title: Roczniki Bieszczadzkie - Year 2013, Vol 21, Issue 1
Abstract
It was revealed that the current biomass growth of trees at the age of 120–250 years may reach a value of 0,08–0,14 m[sup]3[/sup] /year in the uplands and lower mountains. Near the timber line, in the forests of Picea abies with participation of Pinus cembra, such culmination of increase comes in trees approximately 300 years old. Its gives a value of approximately 0,02 m3 /year. For this purpose it necessary to change the orientation of of forest management within the limits of the State ecological network and accept and accept ecological priorities – the increase of the volume of forests and due to that also increase of carbon depositing, oxygen making, as well as implementations of hydrologic functions.
