Inflammation-mediated fetal injury by maternal granulocyte-colony stimulating factor and high-dose intraamniotic endotoxin in the caprine model
Journal Title: Turkish Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Year 2019, Vol 16, Issue 1
Abstract
Objective: To define a novel experimental model with maternal intravenous (i.v.) granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) followed by a single- and high-dose of 20 mg intra-amniotic (IA) endotoxin to induce fetal brain injury in the preterm fetal goat. Materials and Methods: Pregnant goats (n=4) were given 50 microg/day G-CSF into the maternal jugular vein through gestational days 110-115 (term, 150 days). At gestational day 115, 20 mg of IA endotoxin was administered. Following preterm delivery at day 120 by cesarean section umbilical cord, fetal lung and brain tissues were harvested for histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopy. Inflammatory markers were evaluated in the amniotic fluid and fetal plasma. Results: Necrotizing funisitis with abundant leukocyte infiltration and fetal brain injury was induced in all the fetuses in the experimental group. Conclusion: Maternal i.v. G-CSF for 5 days followed by 20 mg of IA endotoxin is a feasible caprine model to exacerbate intrauterine inflammation.

Neural and cardiac injury markers in fetal growth restriction and their relation to perinatal outcomes
Objective: To compare the levels of umbilical cord blood Neuron-Specific Enolase (NSE) and troponin T and venous blood gas samples between healthy newborns and growth-retarded fetuses with impaired Doppler velocity or lo...
Are complicated monochorionic twins more susceptible to indomethacin-induced fetal ductal constriction? Two cases of laser surgery for Twin-Twin Transfusion syndrome
Indomethacin is a commonly used medication against preterm delivery. Several reports of fetal ductal constriction have been described after indomethacin use in the literature; however, there are no previously documented...
Comparison of bupivacaine and ropivacaine in combination with fentanyl used for walking epidural anesthesia in labor
Objective: Effective pain relief during labor is essential to reduce maternal and perinatal morbidity arising due to pain-induced maternal sympathetic activation, and to avoid unnecessary cesarean sections performed due...
Maternal platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio at delivery can predict poor neonatal outcome in preterm births
Objective: To determine the role of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in predicting poor neonatal outcome among preterm births (PTB). Materials and Methods: The medical records of 439 PTBs and 200 normal pregnancies...
The impact of different 75 g oral glucose tolerance test target ranges within normal limits on neonatal outcomes: A validation study
Objective: To investigate the impact of different 75 g glucose tolerance test (OGTT) target ranges within normal limits on neonatal outcomes, thus to investigate the validity of 75 g OGTT thresholds. Materials and Metho...
