Journal Title: Más Vita - Year 2023, Vol 5, Issue 1

Abstract

Stigmatization, understood as a set of negative stereotypes represents a negative interaction with which people with schizophrenia deal with on a daily basis. This article reviews the possible influence of stigma on the onset, course and occupational evolution of people with schizophrenia. Objective: To analyze the influence that stigma has on the performance of occupational areas, as well as the insertion and inclusion in society of people with schizophrenia. Also, it is intended to analyze how the measures implemented to mitigate stigmatization towards this population work. Method: Bibliographic review with characteristics of a qualitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study approach. Journals were reviewed with articles whose variables will be located in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. Results: The results detail current information about the influence that schizophrenia stigmatization has on the performance of occupation areas. Conclusions: the existence of irrational beliefs linked to dangerousness, violence, instability, abnormality, incurability, lack of control and unpredictability with schizophrenia was evidenced, all influenced by the media and religion of each culture; It was determined that the areas of occupation most affected by stigmaare work, instrumental activities of daily living, health management, social participation, education, play and leisure, limiting the individual's overall insertion and inclusion in society
