Influence of the nonuniformity of water-concentration distribution in a tower scrubber on the efficiency of the cleaning of flue gases from solid particles

Journal Title: Проблеми загальної енергетики - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

Enhancing the efficiency of the cleaning of flue gases of pulverized-coal fired boilers from fly ash is an important ecological problem. In power engineering, apparatus for the wet cleaning of flue gases are widely spread, but they, as a rule, do not meet the present-day requirements, although the possibilities of improving their work are far from being exhausted. To solve this problem, the most reasonable way is connected with mathematical modeling. At one time, such a model for a tower scrubber in the one-dimensional statement was developed by the authors. The one-dimensional statement of the problem has a shortcoming: it does not enable one to take into account a substantial factor, namely, the nonuniformity of water-concentration distribution over the cross (horizontal) section of the apparatus. Therefore, we have developed a method for the comparison of variants of water-concentration distribution and the determination of its influence on the efficiency of the wet cleaning of gases. The basic moment of this method lies in the division of the apparatus into several domains or regions, for which the initial specific flow rates of drops and gas velocity are assigned on the basis of the principles of conservation of the total water flow rate and identity of pressure drops over domains (regions). We have analyzed four variants of distribution: perfectly uniform, substantially nonuniform, and two distributions with the superposition of sprinkling zones of neighboring atomizers one onto another. The best of these distributions enables one to reduce to one-third the amount of solid particles thrown out to the atmosphere. The developed method can be considered as a tool for seeking ways for the improvement and optimization of the working process in apparatus for the wet cleaning of gases from solid particles.
