INFLUENCE OF THE SOVIET POLICY OF RUSSIFICATION ON SOCIO-CULTURAL AND THE LINGUISTIC SPACE OF THE UKRAINIAN SSR IN 1964-1985

Abstract
The main historical backgrounds of the language problem in Ukraine are considered. The features of the language situation at the beginning of independence are detailed and the key factors of influencing it are determined. On the basis of a detailed analysis of scientific works of Ukrainian and foreign researchers, problems were identified in the cultural, educational and political spheres caused by the policy of Russification of Soviet power during the period of stagnation and the unsuccessful domestic policy of the Ukrainian political elite during the period of independence. By revealing the basic laws of the destruction of the Ukrainian language and cultural identity, a comparison of the methods of Soviet power during the reign of J. Stalin and V. Brezhniev was made. The main consequences of the policy of Russification during 1964-1985 for Ukraine were found out.
