Intelligent Transport Systems and the policy of sustainable urban mobility

Abstract
The paper raises the notion of transport in the context of sustainable development. We learn how these issues have been perceived in the UN and European Union documents in various years. Dynamic growth of cities, and of public and individual transport forces to apply Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). In Poland this is a relatively new issue, albeit necessary in the policy of sustainable mobility. The paper presents types of subsystems of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and specifies benefits, which they provide for the car and pedestrian traffic in the city, for the natural environment and economy.
