Interdisciplinary Connections between Medical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry in the Preparation of Bachelors of Laboratory Diagnostics.

Abstract

The research done was focused on the study of a problem of interdisciplinary connections between chemical subjects and other courses in the curriculum for bachelors' of laboratory diagnostics preparation. The problem was solved using the scientific method of analysis of their curricula following a number of approaches: of shared concepts, of common methods of research, of similar practical skills, of the depth of interaction between disciplines, of sequence of their study. In the process of the research the presence of strong interdisciplinary connections between the courses of Medical chemistry and Analytical chemistry was determined, as well as between other disciplines of mathematical and natural-scientific cycles, of professional and practical training and some optional subjects; a list of training courses, which use chemical concepts widely and improve practical habits in Chemistry was compiled (Biological and clinical chemistry, Clinical laboratory diagnostics and Hygiene and hygienic examination); the range of chemical concepts was defined that is necessary for the formation of the chemical component of the professional competence of students and common for research methods of many disciplines; chronological inconsistency in teaching of some disciplines regarding the chemical ones was described. It was concluded that there is a need for bringing prior chemical concepts into a system in the form of a special professionally-oriented glossary; the need for shifting Pharmacology and medical recipes course to the 3rd semester and for introducing into curriculum a professionally-oriented course of Chemistry for laboratory diagnostics bachelors (in the 4th or 5th semester) was proved. The course is supposed to enhance systematization and generalization of key chemical concepts, to present students' chemical material that is to be studied in the frameworks of Hygiene of hygienic examination.
